Cadet Programs
There are a wide range of activities Cadets may
participate in at
the Annapolis Composite Squadron through Civil Air Patrol's Cadet
Program. Young people can develop their leadership skills, investigate
the fundamentals of aerospace science, acquire the
habit of
exercising regularly, solidify their character, and participate in
exciting hands-on activities that prepare them to become responsible
citizens.
Youth between the ages of 12-18
may join the CAP Cadet Program and remain in cadet status until they
turn 21. Middle school students may join before turning 12,
if
their school participates in the CAP School Program.
Many
cadets choose to participate in our search and rescue ground team
program where technical skills, first aid, and survival skills are
taught.
Some
Programs for CAP Cadets:
Tri-Wing
Encampment
The
annual Tri-Wing Encampment is hosted by Maryland, Delaware, and
National Capital Wings. Encampments are one of the most
popular
and worthwhile activities available to cadets. They
challenge cadets to develop self-discipline and teamwork while
broadening their understanding of aerospace. Most encampments
are
conducted on a military installation.
Maryland
Wing Solo Academy
This
annual course will prepare a limited number of prequalified cadets to
pass the FAA written private pilot exam and solo in a CAP aircraft.
Aerospace
Academy
This week-long annual cadet event will instruct cadets in
basic aerodynamics, flight operations, and glider flying.
International Cadet Exchange
The
International Cadet Exchange (IACE) provides selected
youth
and adults an opportunity to serve as "ambassadors"
to
participating countries and promote international goodwill,
friendship and understanding
Civic
Leadership Academy
If you’re interested in politics and careers in public
service, CAP’s Civic Leadership Academy, an intensive 1-week program in
Washington, DC, is for you. CLA cadets receive behind-the-scenes tours
and briefings at the Capitol, Supreme Court, State Department,
Pentagon, CIA, and more. They interact with national leaders while
learning about the democratic process. The week culminates with CAP’s
Legislative Day, when cadets meet with their elected representatives on
Capitol Hill. This is not your average field trip to Washington. CLA is
an academically-focused activity that includes seminars, readings, and
group projects.
Maryland
Wing Cadet Speak Off
To develop communications skills which will allow cadets to
promote Civil Air Patrol.

Maryland
Wing Color Guard Competition
Open
to all cadet squadron color guard teams in the Maryland Wing. A cadet
color guard team will be composed of five cadets (four primaries and
one alternate). The primary team will ideally consist of two cadet
airmen (the guards) and two cadet NCOs (the flag bearers).
Cadet Ball
Hosted by the Maryland Wing Cadet Advisory Council.
Maryland
Air National Guard Shadow Program
The
intent of the ANG Shadow Program is to introduce cadets to the
opportunities and challenges available through service in the Air
National Guard, Air Force Reserve or Active Duty USAF. Cadets
will spend five days working alongside Air National Guard members
performing tasks in eight different career areas. These areas include
flight-line operations, major overhaul and repair, engine repair
facility, avionics repair facility, hydraulic shop, Electronic Counter
Measures shop, weapons, security, support functions and fuels to name a
few.
